But in honor of the big 2-0 anniversary I figured it was probably time for some retrospect...so here I am.
When I really think about it, I realize that I have spent almost half my life married. That's a long time, but yet it doesn't feel like it's that long really. I can hardly remember the person I was 20 years ago, but it also seems like just yesterday.
It's funny that while I remember the whole day and how fabulous it was, the things that really stick with me are the little things...Here are some of the great (and maybe not so great) things I remember about that day OH SO LONG AGO...
- I got to the temple before Patrick and when he wasn't there I panicked that he wasn't coming. He wasn't even late yet...I was just a basket case.
- The man who sealed us in the Salt Lake Temple couldn't get Patrick's name right to save himself. His middle name is Scott, but he managed to call him every other name that rhymes with Scott (and some words that weren't even names) that you can think of. (He WAS as old as Moses, so it isn't that surprising...be he was a very sweet man.)
- When I was at the temple and all ready to go into the sealing room, the worker took me into the waiting room but Patrick still wasn't in there. She had me sit down, and after a few minutes they brought some stranger in and sat him down next to me and a man talked to us about the joys of being sealed and asked us if we were ready to go. Neither of us said anything...just sort of looked at each other in confusion. If they had taken us any further I think I probably would have spoken up.
- My roommate, Julie, got to the temple late and missed the whole thing. I saw her outside for pictures holding her suitcase...
- It was about 150 degrees outside the temple (okay, maybe it wasn't REALLY that hot but it FELT that hot in that giant dress) and while taking pictures I could feel the sweat running down my back. It was horrible. But we got great pictures.
- My mother in law wore her dress backwards all day without knowing it.
- Patrick's sister took all the little kids with her while we were in the temple and when we came out she still wasn't back...she had left Temple Square and couldn't find her way back...they were lost somewhere in Salt Lake.
- Before the reception we were all STARVING (never mind the luncheon we had just eaten) and so me and the bridesmaids ordered pizza. I will always remember the look on my mom's face as she worried that I would slop red sauce all over my dress.
- My little cousins were cute and small....and they had cute little mint green aprons on to serve refreshments....(And a sure sign of how long it's been is that 3 out of 4 of them are married with children of their own now.)
- When we left the reception we had to stop at the store for Pepto Bismol... (it was probably the pizza)
So here's to the next 20...it will sure be different from the first...but you've gotta love an adventure!
I was hoping you would have a post and sure enough you did. I can't believe you are old enough to be married 20 years :) I love that you let the temple worker keep talking while a stranger sat next to you. I am disappointed that a wedding day picture was not included :( Happy Anniversary, may your adventures continue!
